Construction Zone Accident Sends Biker to Hospital

14 Oct

A three car crash in a construction zone let to a Gary motorcyclist being treated for injuries according to a statement from the Indiana State Police.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Rogelio Escutia revealed that at approximately 3:16 P.M., this afternoon, a 2013 GMC Yukon, driven by Timothy S. Pendell, 53 of Linden, Michigan was west bound on I-94 in the center lane at the 23.8 mile marker (this is approximately 2 miles east of the Porter/Burns Harbor exit). This area is a well marked construction zone where the left lane is closed due to construction. Pendell had to slow down/stop his Yukon because of traffic slowing down/stopping up ahead (there was a three vehicle property damage crash that had occurred just west of this location in the construction zone).

A 2006 Buick, driven by Evelyn A. Bailye, 76 of Chicago Ridge, Illinois, was in the center lane behind the Yukon when Bailye saw the Yukon stop suddenly. Bailye tried but couldn’t stop in time and her Buick hit the rear of the Yukon.

A 2006 Yamaha motorcycle, driven by Louis Brown Junior, 56 of Gary, was in the center lane behind the Buick when he saw the Buick slowing down/stopping suddenly. Brown tried to stop his motorcycle but couldn’t and hit the rear of the Buick. Brown was ejected off his motorcycle and landed on the interstate.
