Traffic Stops Yield 82 Pounds of Marijuana!

8 Nov

Portage, Porter County-A traffic stop yesterday, morning, on the Indiana Toll Road yielded eighty-two (82) pounds of marijuana hidden in a car. Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Trooper Nedal Nabhan was east bound on the Indiana Toll Road, at approximately 10:29 a.m., yesterday, Thursday, November 7th, morning, when he stopped a gold 2005 Chevrolet Impala at the 26 mile marker (this is near the McCool Road overpass) for going 60 mph in a well posted 40 mph zone.
The driver, Armando M. Bautista, 23 of South Bend, Indiana, was very nervous and had inconsistencies in his answers. A canine with the Drug Enforcement Agency alerted on the Impala and a subsequent search of the Chevrolet revealed two large compressed bundles of marijuana in the trunk.
**Field weight of the marijuana was 82 pounds. **
Bautista was taken to Porter County Jail where he was charged with: Possession of Marijuana over 30 grams, Class D Felony and Dealing in Marijuana over 10 pounds, Class C Felony.
