Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a shooting incident that occurred atthe Jasper Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area shooting range on Wednesday afternoon. Timothy P. Tackett 54 of Porter, IN drove himself to Porter Regional Hospital to receive treatment for a gunshot wound to his hand. Tackett was later transported by ambulance to Christ Advocate Hospital in Chicago, IL for specialized treatment.

Tackett was allegedly adjusting a sight on his rifle when it fell, causing it to discharge. Tackett was struck in the right hand as a result of the gunshot. Tackett advised Conservation Officers he did not realize the gun was loaded. The incident remains under investigation to determine how Tackett sustained his injuries.

Conservation Officers encourage those handling all firearms to keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, always treating the firearm as if it wereloaded. Indiana Conservation Officers offer hunter safety courses that teach the care and proper use in handling firearms. For more information on hunter safety courses, go to www.in.gov/dnr/, or contact your local DNR Law Enforcement Headquarters.

Rule #1: Every firearm is loaded, especially when it isn’t.

If it was an automatic the 1st rule is …Never leave a bullet in the chamber!!! If you get stoped and a cop checks your gun, you can be arrested… It takes only a nana second to pull the slide and load the bullet…Also, never asume you are clear; double check! I’ve know that since I was a kid!

I carry daily with round in the chamber as do most people. The gun is appendix inside waist band, loaded at 1 o’clock position, right near the family jewels. Frightened? Modern automatic handguns have firing pin disconnect anyway — have to touch the trigger.

It doesn’t take a nano second to cock back a slide, it takes seconds which is too long in defense situation. Finger is always off trigger. What are the 4 rules of gun safety? Read it for yourself and not post drivel and furthermore no one will get arrested for a bullet in their chamber, more nonsense. Friggin laughable, thanks for the giggles.
