Family Argument Ends In Standoff W/ Police

A late night family argument resulted in a six hour standoff with police and a man being jailed on multiple felony charges. 

Preliminary investigation shows that at approximately 11:20 P.M., the Orange County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a possible domestic disturbance with shots fired at 2657 West County Road 525 South, Paoli. Trooper Michael Allen arrived on scene with Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies and Paoli Police Officers at approximately 11:30 They found that David Coleman, 54, had fired multiple gunshots at family members, driving them out of the house. 

Coleman barricaded himself in the house, refusing to cooperate with officers on scene. During the standoff, Indiana State Police Emergency Response and Hostage Crisis Negotiation Team members responded and began trying to communicate with Coleman. At approximately 3:35 A.M., search and arrest warrants were issued for Coleman. At 5:10 A.M., negotiators and ERT members convinced Coleman to step outside the residence, at which point he was taken into custody. 

Coleman is being charged on preliminary charges of attempted murder and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the Orange County Jail.
