Armed Robbery at Phillies Steak & Lemonade, Police Response Questioned

If someone was pointing a gun at your daughter, what would be an appropriate response time for the police?  That is the question a Gazette reader is asking after her daughter was robbed while working at Phillies Steak & Lemonade at 25th and Burr in Gary’s Black Oak section early Wednesday morning.  About 1:40 a.m. two men walked into the restaurant, pointed guns at the cashier and demanded the money.  The cook snuck out a back door and called 9-1-1 immediately.  Meanwhile, the cashier gave the armed men the money from the cash register.

After the robbery, a shaken and scared cashier walked across the street to the truck stop where she again called 9-1-1.  She says it took over ten minutes for the police to respond.   “I don’t understand, two reserve police officers had just been there” states the Mother.  She does not blame the police.   “When I asked an officer why it took so long, he said there were only 6 officers on duty on midnights.”  She said she was told to “ask the mayor” why there was not more focus on putting police on the streets in the crime ridden community.

So lets ask the Mayor, Madam Mayor why does it take ten minutes for police to respond to an armed robbery?

We will let you know if we receive a response.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for a response from the mayor. She’ll probably blame it on the State

i dont know how many officers should of been on duty…but… my question would be…were the officers on another call at the time of the first 911 call? and my next question would be…could the officers abandoned what call they were on, to go to an emergency robbery call? POLICE officers lay down THEIR lives for the public and the families of officers have to live, eat and sleep thinking of their loved one in harms way at all times on duty…I am greatful for PEACE OFFICERS we cant hold them accountable for a system if its broken…Make your voice count and VOTE!!!!

I thought several new police officers were just sworn in! Six officers on mid nights in any city is simply not enough!

That is completely unacceptable. What if it was the worse case scenario and the armed men shot the young lady? Every minutes counts and 10 minutes could have meant death for her.

Police are janitors who arrive after the fact for clean-up. Statistically, this is fact. Rarely do they arrive for the showdown. In addition, the police have no requirement and will not be held liable for protecting you. There have been numerous SCOTUS rulings on this. “Protect and serve”? Well they had to come up with catchy motto… Protect the blue line via their union and get served donuts more like… for a brotherhood that serves itself most times unfortunately. Ideally there would be more heroes and police speaking out against the improprieties of thuggery and violation of citizens’ rights..but I digress…

Bottom line, the Second Amendment is your inherent natural right to protect yourself as “the authorities” will be just MINUTES away in the midst of split second crime. Tell the gal clerk cashier to start packing heat and a blade. Everywhere… and ignore “gun free zones” and other un-Constitutional kill zones or unlawful edicts forbidding you from defending yourself and society. You are the front line. Or maybe you depend on the mayor and the rest of the clown posse to wipe your bottom?

Because the mayor is taking all the money from the city
