UPDATE: Hammond Shooting Justifiable?

21 Oct

by Ken Davidson

In a weekend of bad news for Northwest Indiana, earlier reports of a murder may have been overstated. An incident reported as a homicide by the Lake County Coroner apparently resulted in no arrests according to sources close to the investigation. A resident of the home in the 4000 block of Grover Street called 911 stating someone was trying to break into her home. Police were dispatched to the scene as the caller stated “my boyfriend shot him” and hung up. Dispatch returned the call to the residence and spoke with a male who admitted he had shot the man attempting to enter the home. Sources said the case remains under investigation but appears to be a case of self-defense.

The victim, Jonathon Butler, was from 108th Place in Chicago. The well kept Grover Street area is just one block from the Indiana-Illinois State line and just 9 miles from the South Side residence of Butler.

This story is pretty far removed from what actually happened. IMO, you should wait until the facts are in before printing your stories.

” Butler, who resided in the 100 block of W. 108th Place, and the shooter were involved in a disagreement over money, police said relating to an unpaid drug debt.”
