UPDATE on : "Fatal Off Road Vehicle Crash"

The driver, Richard Haschke, 50, of Highland was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple head injuries. Jeffery Cifaldi, 31, of LaPorte was transported to a Munster Community Hospital and treated for a broken arm. Bryan Minnich, 42, of Highland was treated and released from the scene.

The accident is still under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the cause of the crash. Safety belts were not being worn by any of the occupants of the Ranger.

 

ORIGINAL STORY :

Indiana Conservation Officers and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a fatal off road vehicle crash that occurred in the early morning hours on 10/20/13 in Lake County. Emergency personnel responded to downtown Highland at 3:20 am to a report that a Polaris Ranger had rolled over and had trapped three occupants. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other occupants sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.The investigation is on-going and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Other agencies assisting include the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Highland Fire Department, Highland Police Department, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.

    A Polaris Ranger rolled over at 3:30am with three middle aged men on board. Have they released whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor?
