Where's the Fire? Gary Fire Chief Spotted in Illinois

The Northwest Indiana Gazette has received photos of a vehicle which we have since confirmed belongs to Gary Fire Chief Terresa Everett.  One of the photos depicts a female at the wheel, although we cannot confirm it is Chief Everett.  The photos are newsworthy because the reader says he took the photos after seeing the vehicle in Illinois on a Sunday.  The Chief was not wearing a uniform and did not appear to be on official business.

Notably, one of the suggestions by the Indiana State Police Tactical Team was for the Gary Police Department to better monitor and maintain city vehicles.  Mayor Freeman-Wilson herself lamented the sad state of Gary Fire Department vehicles and equipment when lobbying for the Lake County Income Tax.   The police and fire departments have several late model Chevy Tahoe vehicles which are all driven by top level administration officials.

The citizens of Gary deserve answers as to what the Chief was doing in Illinois in a City vehicle.  In a cash-strapped city, the perks for administration officials should be curtailed in order to get more money to those on the streets fighting fires and crime.

I recall these Tahoes being secured with grant monies. What are the stipulations on the grant dollars and cars bought with these funds??

Aren’t there other cars in the fleet that also were bought by grant monies? I see City of Gary cars parked all over the city in employees’ driveways. I thought cars were pulled back as a means to save money.

There needs to be an article on all the cars and the monies used to secure them. I searched the internet and found several articles on the Tahoes and other cars bought with federal grant dollars.
