Johnson Hearing Set for 11/26

by Ken Davidson

The sentencing hearing for David Johnson, of Dave’s Tree Service, is scheduled for November 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Court watchers in the area are keeping an eye on this one as rumors of more indictments in the case have been swirling for months. Sources tell the Gazette that the latest delay in the trial comes as a result of a polygraph issue. In the meantime, Johnson appears to be acting as a man who is confident that he is not going to prison despite having entered a guilty plea nearly a year ago. Does this mean he is foolish or he knows something that we do not? Only time will tell.

What is he doing that a man going to jail would not do? Signed up for health insurance on an Obamacare exchange?

Dave Johnson is going to jail. He is charged with bribing a public official and four counts of federal income tax evasion.
” David Johnson, 56, of Munster, owner of Dave’s Tree Service — charged with payment of a bribe to an agent of a local government receiving federal funds.

The indictment alleges that Johnson paid Salinas $10,500 in exchange for Salinas giving Johnson $310,000 worth of work trimming trees in Salinas’ district. The money for the trees came from casino tax revenue that each Hammond council membes gets to benefit his or her district.

Salinas is also charged with four counts of willful failure to file tax returns for tax years 2006 through 2009.

The federal government has also filed a forfeiture allegation against Salinas, demanding he pay back the $10,500 to the government.

It was unclear if Salinas, who was arrested Thursday morning, or Johnson have had their initial appearance.”

Johnson was heavily involved in the E. Chicago sidewalk scam. The Honorable Thomas McDermott Jr brought Johnson to Hammond, as Johnson reportedly always found a way to channel campaign funds to those in the know.

If any one besides Bobbie Cantrell knows where bodies are buried, Johnson is your man. Mr. 44 Months Salinas (not too smart) got his lengthy sentence, as he didn’t what to share what he knows.
