Higgs Seeks Increased Patrols After Murder; Venecz Says We Have Done Everything We Can

23 Jul

After a homicide in the 1400 Block of Sherman Street, Council Member Anthony Higgs called for a letter to be sent to Police Chief Brian Miller seeking increased patrols in the area.  Higgs also pointed out that summer programs at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Park had been cancelled due to concerns over recent violence.  The resolution passed but Council Member Janet Venecz expressed the belief that everything possible was being done.  Venecz stated she advised Council Member Uylaki regarding Sherman Street as soon when he was sworn in two months ago and that She and Police Chief Miller met with Neighborhood Watch and citizen groups regarding the violence in the area.

The murder marks the second homicide in Hammond this year.
