Operation Push Demonstration Draws 100 in Hammond, Calls for Gun Control

20 Jul

Operation PUSH staged a demonstration in front of the Hammond Federal Court House today. Approximately 50 people carried signs with slogans such as “Handguns are for Cowards” and “Ban Assault Weapons.” While the majority of the signs were advertisements for Operation Push (see photos), a few called for “Justice for Trayvon.” In addition to the 50 or so marchers, a crowd of about 50 gathered near the event.

While a few of the demonstrators carried signs related to the death of Trayvon Martin, the Operation Push focus seems to be the elimination of the stand your ground defense and a renewal of the ban on assault weapons.  Trayvon Martin was killed with a handgun and the stand your ground defense had no part in the case.
